Banned and Avoid
There are a lot of things out there spreading misinformation or outright stealing. We try to help mitigate that. You can still look and read anything on this list, but do so knowing what you are getting into. This will also include discussion of the origins of items and places, such as holidays known in the USA.
We will also go over what the correct information is, and what was either misheard, intended to mislead, or outright stolen or repurposed. Sometimes things out of context can damage an entire culture or a people.
Banned due to heavy usage and encouragement of AI.
Banned due to excessive outside religion and enforcement of “gender roles” (Things such as women care for the home and children, men work).
Overly religious and demonizes anyone who takes part in Halloween. It also gets the origins of Halloween wrong as well. Halloween's oldest name is Samhain (Sah-wane/Sew-in) and originated with the Celts and Gaels (Celtics and Gaelics). It was attempted to be taken over and erased as it was a Pagan holiday to honor the deceased and welcome in the coming of a new year by the church. It was "replaced" with All Saint's Eve and All Hallows Day, but these were then washed out by Halloween when the Irish came to the United States. So yes, Samhain predates the church's rendition by many centuries.
"Second verse, same as the first." Not quoting the book. We mean that this is the same as the original book by this author, only they toned down the condemning.
You know by now it is incorrect when someone talking about Halloween says, "Dive into this captivating book to uncover the fascinating truth and discover the holy Catholic roots of this holiday" misinformation will ensue.
If you thought Mommy, Why Don't We Celebrate Halloween? was a bit much, this cranks up the shock factor to the eleventh on purpose and outright states how you will go to hell if you didn't pray or if nobody prays for you. Quoting the page, "For too long, Christians have allowed the secular culture to dominate what is essentially a deeply religious holiday."
Quoting one comment that was misinformed as well:
"Halloween IS Catholic, and don’t you forget it!: Anthony DeStefano did it again! Another exceptional Catholic book. My 4 year old son carried the book around with him all morning and brought it to my mom’s today. My 6 year old daughter keeps asking 'Do you want to go to heaven or hell?' with a stern tone that’s saying 'get your act together!' This is a new family favorite."-Christina
Again, Halloween dates back before the churches even existed; that is how ancient it is. And please, if you are religious, do not go to a stranger's grave and pray. You do not know their beliefs or who they were in life, and that is a violation against the deceased.
Most Nordic tales that claim to tell you how they are and the mythology are sadly outright lies or misinformation. And even worse, many use Snorri Sturluson's works as a starting point. The reason that is bad is that Snorri was with the church and purposely wrote his writings in a "more palatable" form. Liam, the author of this book, talks about some things correctly, but he based his work on Snorri's own. This is easy to point out when he mentions Loki as being deceptive.

Now we would link this, but it is pulled from Amazon. Björn Thorvald, the author, is of the Catholic church though. We have read his works and, yes, he demonizes Loki and spreads misinformation about the Norse.
You can already tell by the title that this book is malicious towards many people and also misinforms. Anytime anything says "That works", it will not work; it's a snake-oil tactic. This author has something against many groups of people. For example, "Witchcraft Agenda"? Most Witches keep to themselves. In fact, there are Christian Witches, no, we are not joking. But this book spouts a lot of rather hateful things, not just towards Witches.
Anything, and we mean anything that the Norroena Society says, has been confirmed as major lies. Actually harmful ones too that have damaged a culture. This is, we kid you not, an actual Cult. And not a Cult in the terms of a small group of people with similar beliefs and ideals not tied to a religion. No, we mean akin to Charles Manson, Cult (The bad kind in a big negative way). Avoid any books with their name on it, and if someone is associated with them, including an author, run. Mark Puryear is one of their confirmed advocates and has actual destroyed a very real culture and way of life, Asatru and even Heathenry. It nearly wiped out an entire culture.
Ok, now this was actually pointed out to us. The author has since deleted the comment, but they purposely rated their own book and left a praising comment on their own work. Never do this. Deleted comment seen here.
All they "write" are AI generated works.
Heavily misinforms people with false information and the author themself misunderstanding things and the severity.
Judy Hall preaches about her religion a lot in her books and uses crystal healing over any other medicine or treatment, right alongside prayer healing.
We wanted to like her works, because she is from Pennsylvania. However, she does zero research and just writes books with no actual information, other than misinformation.
Layla Moon has zero experience in actually using Hoodoo or Voodoo. This shows in the fact that she mixes them up with each other. One is a closed practice, the other is not. The closed practice is from a culture; the other is not locked to only black individuals as she claims (Backed up by known practitioners if you do a quick search). Voodoo is closed, but Hoodoo is not.
The terms "Black Magic/Magick" and "White Magic/Magick" are racist
Not many know this, but when you say Black Magic/Magick or White Magic/Magick, it is not Dark and Light. No. These are actual terms that are heavily racialized against either group. Making both terms racist in any use. What people consider "Black Magic/Magick" is actually called Baneful Magic/Magick, while "White Magic/Magick" is referred to as just Magic. So whenever you see something that is claimed to be "dark" and "evil" or something, that is Baneful.
A religious fear-mongerer who believes prayer can cure notorious diseases.
Another author known for fear-mongering, being overly pushy with their religion, and spreading misinformation.
Much like Tella Olayeri, Oladimeji is a fear-mongering author who is always pushing his religion onto others.
Lauri has a lot of books that push his practices, not his religion, onto others. This came about to us from one of our members talking about his book The Magical Child. He pushes a bit too hard.
Like many authors we have come across, this one uses AI to write their works and do their art.
